Hallway - back door

The holes and cracks have been patched up, in the one case with the help of a wall brick cut to shape, and the painting done. This section now looks much better.

The plaster of paris and the moulding alginate have arrived for fixing the cornice but I do not know when it will be done. It seems better to do some more of the hallway wall at the moment!
The main stairway painting has also been done.
A new shower mixer had to be fitted as since the installation of the new central heating, last year, the higher pressure had caused the leaks in the old mixer to get worse. Of course, this was not simply take off one and add a new one as the pipe centres and fixing holes were completely different. The old fixing screws had rusted so there was no slot to set the screwdiver in but eventually they were out. A method was worked out that only needed a 3ins section of pipe to be added. I had not done any pipe soldering for a long time and managed to make a mess of one of the connections. The most difficult part was unsoldering the bad connection with only two hands. Sensibly, instead of trying to resolder the same one, a mechanical straight coupler was used (should have done that in the first place). The new mixer is a definite improvement on the old one.
