Shower, hallway and soffit

Decisions, decisions….First, the shower .... originally the space was going to be filled with bricks. It needed two bricks deep to reach the correct height and even then they had to be mortered and levelled then plywood on top. The wood store came to the rescue again and three pieces of marine ply was found that would be sufficient. The number of bricks to be used was changed about three times and then it was remembered that there were some very large old floor joists in the basement. All the bricks were removed and the joists cut to size. The ply was also reduced in size, to fit inside the old surrounding bricks.

The next problem was the drain hole. Well, not the hole as that was easily cut but the base could not be put down without the drain in place….but the drain has to be on top. This was eventually sorted out with the use of a wire coathanger pushed through the drain plug (I will not go into detail). The base was laid and the new shower door and side fitted, not without its own problems but a shower has been had, successfully. There is still some tiling to do as the base is lower than the old one but someone else is going to do that. Some old floor tiles were added below the base.

The hallway is almost complete, the stencilling done and the only thing left to do is to repair the cornice, perhaps sometime next week! The area under the stairs has had its different treatment and I am quite pleased with how it shows off the curvature.
A friend wished to borrow the scaffold tower and it made me realise that the soffit still needed repairing, so the deal was, if he helped me fix it, the tower could be borrowed afterwards.

It impresses me that if two people work together how much faster things can be done. The total time for putting up the tower, repairing the soffit, painting it, dismantling the tower and putting it into the back of his van was less than 4 hours. A bit faster than if it had been done on my own.
